How to stay sane

This innovative project was my first design project of my first year studying graphic design at Arts University Bournemouth. We were given a copy of text out of a hat to then create a zine presenting the given copies content. I was given 'How to stay sane' Perry, P (2012). This project enabled us to experiment with typography and imagery using Indesign. There were no guidelines in place that we had to follow, this project gave us freedom to explore conceptual thinking and digital skills.

Imagery development

Initially with my design process I started off creating my own mixed media style to then build type around using the copy I was given.

I used a simple colour palette throughout the zine in which I would say has been successful. I included a lot of my own mark making techniques to create backgrounds and to overlay over solid colour areas.

I experimented with my use of imagery creating contemporary designs to visually present chaotic spreads that relate back to the statements within the copy 'How to stay sane'.

Final outcome and reflection

To summarise this was a fun and experimental project, I really enjoyed learning to use Indesign and to experiment with typography.

If I were to do this project again I would've trialed more with grids and layouts and my use of typography and created more of a variation.

Lastly I believe there is always more to learn with Adobe softwares and I am always keen to develop my knowledge in this area as a graphic designer.
